I am a Board Whore

Not to be confused with a bored whore… I have no time to be bored, and the only whoring I do is at my day job; just like every other cube-dweller in Corporate America.

For the most part I stick to adult webmaster boards, but I really enjoy the Six Feet Under and Sopranos boards over at HBO.com.  While pornslingers are indeed a very diverse crowd, the common thread they share, their involvement in Adult, instantly bonds them as outsiders.  A bunch of fans of a certain show have a much less compelling reason to bond, and yet they do (and there aren’t nearly as many personal or professional mudslinging matches LOL).  In analyzing our favorite shows, we’re often inspired to do a little soul-searching of our own in response to the situations onscreen, and it’s educational to hash it out with others sometimes.

I understand the power of the Internet as a tool for education, marketing and entertainment.  But the thing I like best is its capacity to build a community over unimaginable distances.  Because of my board-whoring ways, I’ve made friends all over the world and engaged in heated (yet still fascinating) debates with people I might never have otherwise crossed paths with.  Therein lies the reason why I could never adjust to life without online access.  I can’t stand the thought of my world being limited to my immediate physical environs, with traditional media my only link to the outside world and the telephone or fax the most advanced way to achieve real-time interaction.

If I weren’t a board whore, I’d never have met my new buddy Alexander the Poet.  Gotta love a guy who writes poetry praising pornstars and pillorying pedophile priests.  Long Live Free Speech!

And board whoredom has its value in the marketplace as well.  I’ve proven that I can build and moderate them at my day job, and there ARE companies that actually pay people to do those things (though I hear AOL’s not one of them—unless you consider a free AOL account as good as a paycheck… um, fuck that!).  Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to working—and posting—on my own damned board.  Hahahaha!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mothers (and Muthas too).  Gawd only knows when I’ll get around to updating again!
