Farewell to One of the Greats
I’m talking about Ray Charles, of course. At 10:00 AM today while the whole company observes a moment of silence for an old, rich white guy whose politics and policies served as a wedge in the racial divide, I’ll be turning my thoughts to a musical genius who brought us together through Soul music.
Thank you, Brother Ray, for all the years of great music. The world mourns your passing.

This Just Pisses Me Off
According to this USA Today story, there are still Americans who believe that their opinions matter in who’s allowed to fuck whom.
Asked whether same-sex relations between consenting adults should be legal, 48% said yes; 46% said no. Before this month, support hadn’t been that low since 1996.
I don’t think there should be laws for OR against same-sex relations, nor opposite-sex relations. It’s nobody’s business but the people involved in the relationships at hand. Didn’t we as a country learn anything from the old laws proscribing interracial marriage? The government has no business interfering.
If you don’t like the idea that I’m fucking whomever I might like to fuck, that’s YOUR problem. Not the problem of the courts, nor the police. Here’s a message for those people whose lives are so empty that they’re consumed by thoughts of whose naughty bits are going where:
Since you care so much about who’s doing whom, how about starting in your own backyard… go fuck yourself.

Interesting Statistics: guns and violent crime
Dave Duffy’s article in Backwoods Home Magazine cited some interesting facts:
Statistics compiled by law enforcement show the increased personal possession of firearms lowers violent crime in direct proportion to the amount of increase. Example: In the 33 states that now permit its residents to carry concealed handguns, the violent crime rate has dropped dramatically—up to 13% in the largest counties studied. Conversely, in England, where draconian laws banning handguns were passed in 1997, violent crime is up 40%. Disarmed Australia is having the same problems as England, while armed-to-the-teeth Israel and Switzerland are experiencing low violent crime rates.
I’ve always known that was the case… sheesh! Criminals aren’t necessarily fools—not knowing whether they may be outgunned by their intended victim makes crime a whole lot riskier, now doesn’t it?

When I get that feeling, I want sexual healing
“We no longer dismiss the impact that sexual health has on a person’s overall well-being—it’s as important as diet and exercise,” said Australian sex therapist Rosie King, who was involved in Pfizer’s Global Study of Sexual Attitudes and Behaviours.

I am sick to my soul
I’m in a state of shock. America is at war… we’re not quite sure with WHOM yet, but when we are, justice should be swift and befitting the horrific nature of the acts committed against us. I wouldn’t call myself a patriotic person, but I believe in the freedom America stands for, and as a country we cannot allow ourselves to be intimidated into giving up our freedoms for a sense of “security.” We the people WILL stick together and fight the enemies of freedom, with fucking ball bats and crowbars if it comes down to it. Though I have to admit there’s a part of me that hopes the US will just eradicate the country from whence the threat and show ALL terrorists that there will be no quarter given.
While I’m not really fearful for my safety at home, I *would* rather be with my family 75 miles away; if for no other reason than I think it’s important for those of us who love each other be together in this horrific time of sadness and mourning. Then again, I’ve always been one to feel it’s important to gather the tribe. There are so many things that I thought were worthy of stressing over yesterday, that mean little or nothing today. Job, house, possessions… all easily replaced. My life and the lives of those I love, the moments I can share with them are irreplaceable. I have a lot of thinking to do… today my thoughts and attitudes have been forever changed.
I’ll never be the same.
Prayers and thoughts to everyone whose lives were affected in today’s tragedies. May you and yours find peace, and may justice be served so the loss of life is not in vain.
